Today, I want to share with you my thoughts on Rome. Rome will always have a special place in my heart as it was the first place in Europe I ever experienced. Following the 26-hour journey on the plane I can remember driving to my apartment in awe of the historic buildings. I arrived around 6pm so I settled in and then ventured down to the local piazza, where I sat and enjoyed a refreshing beer and traditional pizza.
Rome was rich in history, and while I do not normally get excited about walking through buildings, I could not believe the age and detail in the buildings. My biggest tip for Rome and other European countries is to jump on the open bus tours, because the stories add so much more to the experience.
Another highlight of Rome and Italy in general is the lifestyle. I loved walking down the little side streets to find fantastic shops, cafés, bars, and restaurants.
One of my favourite nights was the night in the bar when Italy played Spain in the Euro cup semi finals. The atmosphere was amazing and it ended in a penalty shoot out with Spain winning on the fifth and final shot. The pub was fairly empty within 60 seconds of the game finishing, it was funny to see and great to be part of.
All in all, Rome is a fantastic city and I look forward to heading back one day.
